Yay! Baby is here!

Now what?

With the arrival of your new bundle, it is a time of happiness, but undeniably all can be overwhelming. This is the case, no matter if you're a new parent or done this a few times. Is my baby getting enough to eat? Why does my body feel this way? When will baby sleep through the night? How can I make sure my older children feel included?

Parents can often feel unsure and stressed trying to find the answers to these questions, let me guide you.

As postpartum nurse I am medically trained and will help you navigate all these questions with nonjudgmental, evidence-based information and hands-on support. You will receive help with feeding, diapering, and bathing. As well as having emotional support and encouragement on the tough days. As a nurse, I will encourage families and build their confidence.

Gentle Beginnings will assist with:

  • Feeding: We are skillful with breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, pumping, and formula feeding. We will be able to educate and provide teaching with anyway you choose to feed.

  • Sleeping: New families need rest, and we are here to help that by motivating a healthy, appropriate sleep habit for your baby. We also want parents to get more sleep and are available for overnight care or daytime care so you can have that much needed nap.

  • Physical and Emotional Care: Being trained in women’s health, we can help you with all your questions that arise with your new role. We are also here to help if you need someone to talk to, about any worries or needs you may have. We are there to be your village and support.

  • Sibling Adjustment: Parents that have older children, may wonder how to ease the transition. When you have a postpartum nurse, we will be able to give you tips and tricks, to ensure all of your children get the love and attention they deserve.

  • Meal Prep and Planning: Making sure, you have a well-balanced diet is essential for postpartum recovery. We can help with organizing dinner, running simple errands, arranging snacks, and even meal planning with you.

  • Household Tasks: As your postpartum nurse, leave the tidying up to me. I will help out with dishes, baby laundry, and basic tidying up so you can rest and enjoy your bundle.

  • Healing: Holistic and traditional recovery practices such as herbal baths, belly binding, baby wearing, vaginal steaming etc.

  • Photographs: If your family would like, we can also provide pictures so you can get back to enjoying being in the moment with your family.

  • Referrals: If there is something that Gentle Beginnings is unable to help with, we are more than happy to give you professional referrals.

No matter what your family situation is, you deserve to be supported during your 4th trimester-

the postpartum time.

How can a night nurse help you? Between the hours of 8pm-8am

1. Sleep with peace. You can’t help but jump out of bed with each new sound your baby makes. An overnight nurse will be right there to tend to your baby so you can sleep peacefully, knowing your baby will be looked after.

2. Support with night breastfeeding. Night feeding can be difficult if you aren’t aware of a baby’s early cues that hunger is mounting. Your night nurse will be present to attend to your baby’s needs, take notes of early hunger cues, and bring your baby to you before she is frustrated.

3. Companionship in the wee hours. If you are awake and need emotional support while you and your baby are learning how to breastfeed, having a non-judgmental person there to encourage you can be incredibly helpful. As your night nurse, I will help with positioning and getting a great latch.

4. A night Nurse will be present and available for you as a safe and judgement-free witness to your introduction into parenthood. As you learn what is best for you and best for your baby, you can have hands on support encouraging you to develop confidence at your own pace.
